ASL Rose honors the International Day of Signed Languages which falls on September 10th, although in reality, ASL Rose honors all signed languages on a daily basis. ASL Rose would like to celebrate the importance of human signed languages from all over the world by presenting George Veditz’s famous quotation from his speech which was preserved on film for NAD from 1910 to 1913. You can view video clips in your native signed language translating a quotation of George Veditz’s Preservation of Sign Language. Share it with the world in your classroom, your family, friends, your co-worker...so that signed languages can be preserved.
- Veditz’s Bristol Sign Language Version:
English translation of the quotation from Veditz’s speech:
"As long as we have deaf people on earth, we will have signs. And as long as we have our films, we can preserve signs in their old purity. It is my hope that we will all love and guard our beautiful sign language as the noblest gift God has given to deaf people."
If your signed language version is not here, you may send it to us. We will be happy to add it here along with other video clips.
Thanks to all native signers who have dedicated their work by translating Veditz's quotation into their signed languages.
