Presentations
  • I wanted to tell you that your presentation at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Public Library was awesome. Particularly, the introduction on history of the National Literary Society of the Deaf (NLSD) and its first presidents was captivating. The audience was attentive from beginning to the end because you organized the information in an way that any person feels curious and excited to learn more. Your book "Have You Ever Seen" certainly fills a gap in schools and libraries regarding the need for more products that encourages more teachers to prepare themselves adequately in the field of deaf education, promotes learning for deaf, hard of hearing and hearing students, and preserves deaf history and culture for future generations. The NLSD Board Members and I appreciate your efforts in mentioning NLSD's activities during your presentation and wish you continued success with "Have You Ever Seen" book and many more products from ASL Rose.

Products
  • This whimsical DVD/book will please, charm and entertain many deaf children. It will provide a language enhancer too as deaf children learn to play with their ASL and effortlessly learn the parts of signs. The Deaf Culture components are a plus too.
-Dr. Jean Andrews, Director and Professor, Deaf Education and Deaf Studies Department, Lamar University, Beaumont, TX

  • It is a great tool for everyone, including the adults and children. It is strongly recommended for the hearing teachers and sign language interpreters to improve their receptive skills and understanding the Deaf culture in the order to work with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing children. As a Deaf adult, I love the book and I use it as a tool to learn about bilingualism of ASL and English.
    -Peggy Marshall, FL

Publications
  • The Have You Ever Seen…? An American Sign Language (ASL) Handshape DVD/Book definitely offers lots of potential to help deaf youngsters and even adults become more aware of the Deaf World.
-Dr. Lawrence Fleischer, Chair and Professor, Deaf Studies Department, California State University, Northridge, CA

  • Most books I've read that discuss American Sign Language focus on the surface aspects of the language. HYES digs deeper and challenges us in fun and colorful ways to think about the shape of language. Not only is this a wonderful book for those who simply want something entertaining to read-- it is an excellent teaching tool. In addition to the creative, vibrant pictures that offer many layers of information, the book comes with a DVD that children and adults alike will enjoy.
    -Alison Aubrecht, MN

  • Lovely website and always enjoy your e-newsletter
    -Patti Durr, Associate Professor, NTID/RIT

Progress
  • PAH! After being ignored for more than a century, our deaf and hard of hearing children can finally experience their OWN language, borth academically and socially.
-Dr. Laurene Simms, Director and Professor, Deaf Education Graduate Program, Gallaudet University, Washington, DC

  • "Speech training will be more effective for Deaf children once they have internalized English skills...." It is absolutely true! I couldn't speak well till I was at NTID when I finally got English skill. I recall that when I came home for Christmas break, my father was spellbound when I unthinkingly spoke to him. ASL first, English soon later! You both team does terrific job!
    -Chuck Baird, Renowned Deaf Artist

Prizes

Publicization
  • In Brad's household, there are three sons and one daughter. The first two oldest children, both boys and deaf, have always gotten along very well. The brothers never fought each other over anything. The picture changed with the recent incident that caused them into fighting. What was the catalyst that prompted them to do such a thing that never happened before?

"Have You Ever Seen....? An ASL Handshape DVD/Book" was responsible for their fight. The younger brother was reading the book and expressed to the older brother on how much he enjoyed the book. The older brother decided to grab the book rather fast and took it away from the younger brother. After several attempts of his persuasion with the older brother for the return of the book, he became frustrated and decided to pull it away from him. All of a sudden, they got into the fighting for the first time of their brotherly lives and had to be separated by father of those boys.
