Is Cochlear Implant Likened to the $100,000 Car?

Exchanges of Communication between Robert and ASL Rose

  • Exchange #7

Your position has crystalized and I understand it better. I'm not unsympathetic to what you are trying to do, but I do draw the line when others attempt to take away an option as your organization did in Wisconsin. I think it would've been better use of resources and time to have lobbied for making sure your educational approach gets raised with parents of children classified as "deaf."

    Robert,

We are glad that you now understand us better, with thanks to your willingness for open communication via the exchanges of email communication. We also are glad that you saw the value of our argument where we concentrate strictly on "deaf" children. By mixing deaf and hard-of-hearing children for educational approach, it automatically becomes chaotic. It is likened to the concept that oil and water do not mix. In many deaf/hard-of-hearing classrooms, educators caters to hard-of-hearing children far more than Deaf children. Deaf children are often left out. What will happen to the car when oil and water mix? The car is unworkable.

Hope our paths will cross and we will have a good chat!
